MTNA Certification Policies
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Compliance Policy
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires associations like MTNA to make reasonable accommodations to the known physical or mental limitations of otherwise qualified disabled individuals. MTNA is committed to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act in all of the association’s programs and services. MTNA will make every attempt to accommodate disabilities on an individual basis unless the accommodation would impose significant difficulty and undue hardship on operations or the association would incur substantial expense in doing so. Anyone who requests an accommodation must provide documentation of the disability, including a statement from a medical/health care professional, prior to commencing the programs or services.

Policy for the Use of AI in the Teacher Profile Projects for MTNA Certification
The use of generative AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT) is permitted for the following activities:
- Brainstorming and refining your ideas
- Finding sources to provide historical background for pieces
- Drafting an outline to organize your thoughts
- Checking grammar and style
The use of generative AI tools is not permitted for the following activities:
- Impersonating you in written or verbal contexts, such as by scripting feedback or synopses of lesson recordings
- Analyzing pieces from a theoretical, historical or pedagogical standpoint
- Writing entire sentences or paragraphs of any part of your materials, including (but not limited to) your Teaching Philosophy
Candidates suspected of using AI in a manner not in compliance with the policy will be given the opportunity to correct the oversight. If the remainder of the candidate’s work is satisfactory, the candidate will be granted certification when the problematic passages are revised. If other elements within the projects are unsatisfactory, the candidate will be asked to revise the deficiencies, including the appropriate citations, and to resubmit the materials for evaluation.
Plagiarism Policy
Although the MTNA Certification projects are not specifically academic in nature, it is expected that all candidates will adhere to established ethical principles related to intellectual property. Plagiarism, or the use of another person’s words or ideas as one’s own without acknowledging the source, is a serious offense, especially when it occurs within the process to determine one’s basic competence as a professional. The utilization of outside sources in the completion of certification projects is not only appropriate but also encouraged. However, candidates must cite the source author whenever quoting or paraphrasing information in fulfillment of a project.
